About Marcus Brightmore

From his childhood in the vibrant landscapes of Rio de Janeiro, Marcus Brightmore was naturally drawn to the world of arts. The city, known for its spectacular festivals like Carnival, deeply influenced his artistic style, infusing it with the vivacity and color that characterise his work today.

Marcus graduated from UNESA University, where he studied the Art of Photography and Graphic Design, and it was during this period that he deeply engaged with and understood movements such as Expressionism, Fauvism, and Impressionism, each shaping his perception and technique. The result? A fusion of styles he describes as a dialogue among all these artistic expressions, which began to develop early in his career.

Marcus’s work is an ode to lightness and the joy of living. Leading a healthy lifestyle and practice, he also explores in some of his works the idea that the energy of a moving object can generate space, reflecting his continuous search for harmony, tranquility, purity, and balance through colors, especially his distinctive use of yellows, reds, greens to depict the sky and other elements that evoke Hawaiian culture, surf, and beach.

Reflections on his art by Marcus:

"Although the image always starts clear in my mind, the act of placing the ink on the canvas and mixing the colors always brings a surprise, transforming the initial vision into something different—a testament to the spontaneous and definitive nature of my brush."

"My artistic approach is opposed to conceptual art, in this sense, Contemporary Art, which prioritises the idea, the concept, the attitude, above the final artistic object. I deeply value technique, beauty, and creativity, elements I consider essential for a truly impactful artwork."

Currently, Marcus Brightmore exhibits his works and finds inspiration in places around the world, such as California, Hawaii, Colombia, and Japan, in addition to his current base on the Gold Coast.

Through his art, Marcus not only captures but also creates community and connection, attracting admirers who share a love for a tranquil, youthful lifestyle and a deep appreciation for the greatest and most beautiful of all arts, nature itself.
